Great time to place a future bet

A while ago you may remember that I wrote a post about all the types of sports bets you can place and one of those was the what is known as a ‘future’ or ‘futures’ bet. This is a wager that some event or result will come about in the somewhat distant future (such as who will win the 2010 World Series which I’ll come to in just a minute). Whilst future bets are fun because they gives you something to look forward to for the whole season, don’t forget that your money will be tied up for a long time and it could be a long wait until you find out whether you’ll win some money!

We all know that all major professional sports leagues are seasonal. The baseball season, for instance, is now over since the Yankees beat the Phillies last week in the 2009 World Series. But sports betting has no off season meaning that now is the perfect time to place your bet on who you think will win the 2010 World Series – even though it hasn’t started yet.

And William Hill Sports is read to take your bets!  The odds for the 2010 World Series have been posted on the sportsbook’s site.  Here are the odds they have posted for the top five favourites to win the World Series outright in 2010:

New York Yankees at 7/2

Boston Red Sox at 6/1

Philadelphia Phillies at 8/1

Los Angeles Dodgers 9/1

St Louis Cardinals 11/1
The free agent market is expected to heavily favour the Yankees to win but there’s still a chance that an under-the-radar underdog could emerge the winner and take everyone by surprise. Placing an early bet on such a team would result in a huge payout come the end of the season! I suggest you go to Bodog Sports to check out the odds they are offering for second and third tier teams.

And just to finish with, there’s a nice clip for the 2009 World Series final.
