Premier League: Chelsea Too Strong for Man U

Last weekend’s match between Chelsea and Man U was a battle of the top dogs in the Premier League and resulted in Chelsea now being the clear leader on the ladder by five points. They went in to the match as the slight favourites and in the end the final score was Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United. Captain John Terry scored the second half-goal in the 76^th minute with a free kick from Frank Lampard. Man U came close on a couple of occasions but Chelsea defence proved too strong. Chelsea has now set a new club record of 11 straight home wins. Both Man U and Chelsea drew in the Champions League matches this week ahead of the game with each other. Manchester had to work hard to level the score with CSKA Moscow and fought back from a deficit of 3-1.

Champions League update: Lyons a late winner

Cesar Delgado scored an impressive last minute goal on 20 Oct for Lyon to seal a 2-1 against the Liverpool Reds which is now their fourth successive defeat. As if the absence of Fernado Torres and Glen Johnston due to injury wasn’t already enough of a blow to Liverpool, they then lost their captain, Steven Gerrard, only 25 minutes into the game with a groin problem. It was all downhill after this point. Their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage of the Champions League is now looking seriously shaky. Liverpool is still placed third in the Champions League Group E.

And unsurprisingly, Barcelona is still the top favourite to win followed by Chelsea, Read Madrid and Man Utd. The most favoured top goal scorer is Madrid player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Champions League: Man U defeats Wolfsburg

United came from behind to win the match on 30 Sept with 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg. Ryan Giggs scored his 150^th goal for United. They now lead Group B by 3 points. United are still the fourth favourites to win behind Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea and can be backed at 10.0 to win the season. I still can’t work out why Chelsea is favoured ahead of Manchester United. I wasn’t so impressed by their recent performance against Apoel.

Champions League has just begun!!

The Champions League football has finally just kicked off!!! Barcelona is the reigning champion at the moment and are again the favourites to win this most prestigious trophy in European football. But then the French side, Lyon, is also a very strong side in my opinion. As for Real Madrid, even though they are the second favourites to win at the moment, I have a bit of trouble taking them seriously and worry about the egos of some of their team members! This is the first season with the new qualifying format so there are several teams from minor leagues that have been given the opportunity to play for the first time. They may have less experience but I don’t doubt that they may give some teams a run for their money. But is really is a bit of gamble at this stage as to who may come out on top at the end of the day. So stay tuned for my betting tips.
